I find this data from Pew Research fascinating.
Especially the data about property crimes -- nationally only about 1/3rd of property crimes are even reported. And only 17% of those are considered cleared by the police -- meaning they arrested somebody for the reported crime.
This means that only 5% of property crimes result in arrest. This is a staggering statistic 95% of property (non-violent) crimes NEVER result in arrest.
Conclusion: When it comes to property crimes, it is up to you to protect yourself.
